On Democracy

Here's what I learned about democracy

A democracy is a government run by the people. Each citizen has a say (voice or vote) in how the government is run. This is different from a monarchy or dictatorship where one person (the king or dictator) has all the power.

Democracy:
a : government by the people; especially: rule of the majority
b : a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly, or indirectly through a system of representation, usually involving periodically held free elections

Very important is the absence of hereditary or arbitrary class distinctions or privileges!

In the year 507 B.C., the Athenian leader Cleisthenes introduced a system of political reforms that he called demokratia, or “rule by the people.” This Athenian democracy would survive for two centuries before being reformed further to render power more effectively with the majority. Well over 2.5 millennia before any modern democracy.
Debatably, Switzerland became the first 'effective', direct democracy lasting to this day. In 1291, half a century before the US, and long before the Netherlands. The Swiss system remains the only true, direct democracy to this day. It was sanctioned by the emperor of the holy Roman empire. I also find it important to mention that Switzerland never had a hereditary nobility. All citizens are equal by constitution. Power never was and is not hereditary. (debatable, since we had foreign powers influencing politics all the time.)
The Netherlands became a Republic in the 17th century also.

Is Democracy the best system of government (for the people)? I would argue that it isn't.

Autocracy, definition:
A system of government by one person with absolute power.   Let's assume that we find a person with impeccable ethics and morals. Preferably an autist to some degree. A person with great intellect and wisdom in all areas of life, whilst lacking any personal agenda. A person with only the best for the populous at heart, completely incorruptible. If such a person existed, it is arguable that an autocracy with him/her in the leader's position would be the best solution possible.

Quite certainly, such a person has not been born, and may never be born.

It is my believe, that eventually, the world may be governed by an A.I., once we get over the issue that our Egos will never allow that. An A.I. would have an intelligence far beyond what we can understand, it's intellect would be near godlike, compared to our own.

I believe, many countries today who officially call themselves democracies, are in fact what I would call 'Corporatocracy'. One person is put in a place where he/she seems to be in power and elected by the citizens. Wherever I look though, Corporations and lobbyists put them in that place and direct him/her how to rule.
